[Blog] The Cup Runneth Over
Written by CaughtInTheBrambles on Thursday, 6th Jan 2011 18:04

This will not be a blog relating to Section 6, it's subject matter will be related to the group's main aims.

The season's league results have disappointed to put it mildly. Our cup exploits have been in stark contrast however.

So we find ourselves facing Arsenal in the home leg of a two-legged semi-final of the Carling Cup and an away game at Chelsea in the third round of the FA Cup.

On paper the simplistic view is we don't stand a chance in either game and the pessimistic view is that we will get tonked both times.

But since when did football ever follow the script?

We may have lost more games than we should have in the past two months but the same could easily be said for Chelsea. Is a Chelsea team seemingly devoid of confidence really the team we should fear? The term 'there for the taking' could even be used.

Then we get to Arsenal. It seems unlikely we will be playing their first team on Wednesday, not that Arsenal reserves are exactly lightweight but the benefits of experience and the combination of hunger for success and the chance to perform on a widely televised stage could well prove additional factors that work in our favour.

Both games are not foregone conclusions, sure we could get tonked but equally likely is that we can get something out of both games.

All you have to do is believe. Believe that we can win.

Please do not turn up at Stamford Bridge certain we will lose, Please come with an open mind. Forget your opinions of Keane and the players, just leave those preconceptions at home.

Please come to support the team and get behind the team. Take your cue if you like from the Barmy Army out in Oz at the Ashes. If someone near you starts singing a song on Saturday please join in. A full away end means singers will be spread out and not be able to congregate in one area so every singer will need the support of those around them. If every singing group has support around them we can make some real noise which will lift the team. That lift may prove the difference.

Wednesday night and the Arsenal game requires similar belief and similar effort. The atmosphere in the North will be improved because the Arsenal fans will be within earshot and we can verbally join battle with them. But we need the same support for singers throughout the ground. We need the same electric atmosphere we can occasionally create at Portman Road. We need to make an Arsenal side that we hope will be young and inexperienced feel intimidated by Portman Road.

Leave your views about our manager and current league form aside. We need every fan to play his part. To get behind the team and just believe that we can beat them.

If we all do our part, with football being a "funny old game" we could surprise the footballing world, get past Chelsea and go to the Emirates with the game very much alive.

All it needs is to believe, to sing loudly and drive the team on.

Oh, and anyone wanting to do a quick prayer to the weather gods for a snowstorm, it couldn't do any harm.

Now the dark cloud of RK has been lifted I'm sure the atmosphere will be amazing - win, lose or tonked.
